Voice
Communications
The Commonwealth Office of Technology partners with Avaya to offer
several IP telephony solutions to agencies of the Commonwealth of
Kentucky. Voice over IP(VoIP) is the COT standard for our phone system
solutions. This results in a great cost savings and removes the worry of
maintenance fees and expensive repairs. The VC60 rated service is a one
rate charge to those agencies to cover a line of service, voicemail,
and
conference calling ability on the Aura system as well as guaranteed maintenance
and repair.
Along with traditional copper lines, COT has incorporated SIP
trunking over existing data connections to deliver phone service to the Commonwealth
through its centralized voice platform. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
uses IP technology to deliver a very reliable, cost effective, and flexible
method of voice communications. SIP’s benefits allow COT to offer
telephony options to the Commonwealth without the need for a large, on premise,
hardware purchase up front, providing toll free telephony service for agencies
on the Avaya Aura system.
COT provides 911 services to all telephone sites hosted on its’ Aura VoIP
platform. COT also tests sites with landlines to ensure 911 calls are
sending correct information to emergency operators. COT takes
911 emergency response very seriously, and works diligently to ensure continued
compliance with all legislation including Kari’s
Law and Ray Baum’s Act.
