The Commonwealth Service Desk receives many calls about networking issues. All networking issues should go through your Systems Administrator first. If the Systems Administrator feels the problem needs additional attention, contact the Help Desk for further assistance. Below is some useful information that may help with your networking problems.
Procedures For Reporting Networking Problems
- Provide Commonwealth Service Desk Technician with telephone number, address and the name of person at the site where problem is occurring.
- Report the lights of the GDC CSU/DSU.
- Report the lights on the Router.
- Report the results of your pings. (Ex.Sync Line, Default Gateway)
- Please provide the Help Desk Technician with IP address of your Default Gateway, Your IP Address, or Sync Line.
IP Trouble Shooting Tips
- Ping the IP address of your workstation. If no result, contact your systems administrator.
- Ping the Default Gateway IP address. If you don't know the IP address of your workstation or Default Gateway, go to a DOS prompt c:\. If Windows95 type "Winipcfg". If NT, 2000, or XP workstation, type "Ipconfig". Use the result to check the IP configuration on your workstation. (Default Gateway, subnet mask must agree with router configuration.)
- Ping the IP address of the Sync line. If IP address is unknown, contact the WAN team and document for future reference.
- Ping the IP Name of the Mainframe (cdc.state.ky.us) Ping IP address 162.114.16.46. If reporting a trouble ticket to the Help Desk, please report results of ping.
- If all is working except the Internet, ping the DNS server name (aurora.state.ky.us). If unsuccessful, ping IP address (162.114.197.21). If reporting a problem, give results to Help Desk technician.
- Ping something out on the Internet by IP address or name (www.novell.com)
- At DOS prompt, type tracert IP address or name. (EX: C:\tracert 162.114.16.46).
Obtaining The IP Address For Your Workstation
Windows XP: Go to "Start Menu / Run" and enter "command" into the field, then enter "IPCONFIG". When finished, enter "exit".
What Is The Mainframe IP Address And How Do You Change It?
- Go to "3270 Extra! Personal Client"
- Go to "Options"
- Go to "Settings"
- Go to "Connection"
- On the "General tab" check the "Host Alias/IP Address". It should be configured for "CDC.STATE.KY.US". If it is not, it is recommended that it be changed.
