2007 Daylight Savings Time Customer Advisory

Customer Advisory on Daylight Savings Time
and the Microsoft Exchange Calendar Clock

alarm clock Precautionary Measures Advised
March 11 to April 1, 2007

February 20, 2007

Microsoft has advised that the arrival of Daylight Saving Time (DST) three weeks early this year may impact the accuracy of Microsoft Exchange calendar appointment clock times between March 11, 2007 and April 1, 2007. Specifically, clock times may be off by one hour during this period.

To ensure scheduled appointments are not inadvertently missed, Microsoft recommends customers using the Microsoft Exchange calendar function take the following precautionary measures between March 11 and April 1, 2007:

  1. Prior to March 11, 2007, print out your calendar for the rest of the month. On the next work day after March 11, verify appointment times on your workstation still match the printed times and that the workstation clock displays correctly;
  2. Include the time of the meeting in the subject line of your meeting invitation so that invitees can double-check the correct meeting time (such as, "Project Status Meeting - 11:00 A.M. Eastern Time");
  3. Exercise caution with the appointments and meetings in the new extended DST period. When in doubt, verify the correct time with the organizer.

Not everyone will be affected. COT has been working with agencies and Microsoft to obtain, test and deploy the appropriate updates to users to ensure calendar clocks function properly during this new Daylight Savings Time period. However, as a precaution COT advises all customers to take the measures outlined above.
