2008 Best of Kentucky Technology Awards
To: Kentucky Government IT Leaders,
As you probably already know, the 2008 Kentucky Digital Government Summit will take place in Lexington on April 22. Additional information about the summit can be found here. One of the highlights of this year’s summit program will be the announcement of the Best of Kentucky Technology Award winners for 2008. I’m encouraging you to submit your projects, initiatives and individuals to be considered for this year’s awards.
This is the third consecutive year that the Best of Kentucky Technology Awards have been included in the summit program and they've proven to be a popular addition. A number of states have adopted similar award programs to promote and publicize their technology achievements. This year, Best of Kentucky Technology Awards will be presented in the following nine categories:
One Leadership Award will be given:
Eight Development Awards will be given for:
- Best Application or Initiative Serving a Public Organization's Business Needs
- Best Application Serving the Public
- Best IT Collaboration Among Organizations
- Most Innovative Use of Technology - Government
- Most Innovative Use of Technology - Education
- Best Online Services - Commonwealth Government
- Best Online Services - Local Government
- Best Security Initiative
All government organizations in Kentucky are invited to submit nominations, and we are hoping to receive numerous submissions in each of the above categories. The nomination process will close on Monday, March 31, at 6:00 p.m., so please review the above categories and consider nominating deserving projects, initiatives and/or individuals for recognition.
The process of completing a nomination only takes a few minutes, and projects can be easily submitted in more than one category. Note, however, that all projects nominated must be live, production systems. Online submissions may be entered at:

An impartial judging committee is being established to review the nominations and will make the final selections. The committee will have representatives from a cross section of state government agencies. Any questions about the awards or the nomination process should be directed to Brian Kiser at 502-564-1635 (BrianE.Kiser@ky.gov).
I'm looking forward to recognizing your important IT accomplishments at the 2008 Digital Government Summit in Lexington. We sincerely want these awards to be representative of the excellent IT work that's going on in Kentucky cabinets and agencies, and across the Commonwealth.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance,
Steve Dooley
